Pre-Conference Excursion Information
Walk Hadrian’s Wall between Birdoswaldy and Sycamore Gap (approx. 10.5 miles) includes Birdoswald Fort and the Roman Army Museum in Greenhead. (One way walk, public bus transit or taxi to start of walk)
Visit to Vindolanda, with introduction from archaeologist Beth Greene. Afternoon trip to Housesteads Roman fort, one of best preserved on Wall (Transit via bus or taxi)
Charter Bus pick up: short stop at Carrawburgh Mithraeum drive to St. Andrews (roughly 4 hour drive)
Excursion Fee $65.00 (includes bus and admission fees)
Pre-conference Housing - arranged on your own. We are holding rooms at The Twice Brewed Inn in Bardon Mill close to Vindolanda. To reserve a room for the pre-conference excursion, send an email to email@example.com with the dates of your stay, your name, full address and email address; your email message should mention Eric Orlin and SAMR to ensure they know you are part of the group. The Inn will then send you a payment link for a refundable deposit equivalent to one night’s stay. Rooms are £105.00 for single occupancy, £119.00, for a standard double or twin, and £129.00 for a superior double or twin.
Please make your reservations by May 1; the Inn may release any remaining rooms after that date.
